The Fire & Ice Mystery Box

The idea with this new Mystery Box was to build on the achievement of the earlier-released Chaos & Order Mystery Box. To this end, GGG determined on "another double themed box", this time (obviously) fire and ice hockey. The article starts with a discussion about designing a dual-themed armor set being a struggle that went through many iterations before the final design was discovered.

How the box could be handed out to players was unique along with the way it was implemented in WftA is something that will be included in further mystery boxes moving forward:

After much debate, an idea emerged to create it so you could combine fire and ice microtransactions into the carve microtransactions. That served the dual-purpose of becoming equally thematically-appropriate and also an intriguing and unexpected way to soak up duplicates from the box.

We're enthused about the idea and POE Orbs thought it's best to keep it a secret at the initial launch of the box. We felt that the box represented great value even without saying that the split microtransactions and that attempting to convey it may confuse the announcement. We were happy to leave it as a nice surprise for players who'd find that there was added value beyond that which they initially open from the boxes. We were curious to see what the reception into the combining technology could be, without us having hyped it up with marketing. How to Be a Star in Wow
